Outside the Box-Moody Theme {Portland-Child-Photographer}

It’s time for another blog circle theme with my girls from Outside the Box! This months theme is “Moody” and to me there is nothing moodier than a good black and white image. There is something about black and white conversion that really makes you feel something when you look at a picture. Not all images will work in black and white, lighting is key! There has to be the right balance between light and dark, highlight and shadow, and enough contrast. A good black and white will draw your eye directly to the subject of the image and sort of dull the background noise. Here are some of my favorite recent black and white images. Do they feel moody to you? Let me know what you think! And to continue on with this months blog circle be sure to head over to San Diego Portrait Photographer Lauren Nygard and see her take on the “Moody” theme!

I love these sweet little twin brothers all snuggled up together.

Parent shots are always a favorite of mine in black and white. You can just feel the love they have for their little one.

I do most of my birth photography in color, but in this image I really wanted to draw you directly to mama as she was resting in between contractions. The calm before the storm.

This is my sweet little nugget. She was piled on top of all sorts of bright colored blankets and I just wanted to draw attention to her sweet face.

This is my oldest and her friend getting ready to go swimming in the hotel pool. Again, this was about canceling out the background colors to just focus on them.

This one cracks me up, not only is the black and white moody, but this little turkey gave me some seriously moody faces too. LOL!portland-child-photographer-6Pin It!

This sweet little man all wrapped up and cozy. I love black and white for wrapped baby shots.
